Job description

Are you an experienced Disability Support Worker who thrives in complex support environments and understands the difference that consistency, trust and the right approach can make?

Sunrise2Sunrise is seeking skilled, compassionate and experienced Disability Support Workers to join our team in the Donnybrook area, supporting individuals with multiple and complex support needs within a 2:1 Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment.

These opportunities are suited to confident and capable professionals with demonstrated experience supporting people with intellectual disability, psychosocial disability and behaviours of concern. We are particularly interested in workers who understand that effective support requires more than responding to behaviours. It involves recognising individual needs, understanding communication, building trust and creating environments where people feel safe, respected and empowered.

Donnybrook – Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Working as part of a dedicated 2:1 support team, you will provide consistent, individualised support to participants with complex and intersecting needs.

We are looking for workers who can confidently apply trauma-informed practices, implement Positive Behaviour Support Plans and respond calmly and professionally to challenging or changing circumstances.

Just as importantly, we want people who recognise the individual beyond their disability, value meaningful relationships and are committed to supporting participants to exercise choice and control, develop independence and participate in their communities.

These are opportunities for experienced workers who bring sound judgement, emotional resilience, accountability and a genuine commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they support.

Our Approach

At Sunrise2Sunrise, we believe quality disability support extends beyond daily care. It is about recognising individual strengths, building meaningful relationships, promoting independence and creating opportunities for participants to actively engage in their communities. Our approach is grounded in person-centred practice, trauma-informed care, positive behaviour support and supported decision-making. We are committed to delivering safe, respectful and individualised supports that uphold the rights, dignity, choice and control of every participant.

Our people are known as Life Changers because every day they make a genuine difference in the lives of the people we support. We value compassionate, dedicated professionals who share our commitment to quality supports, meaningful outcomes and continuous improvement. If you're passionate about empowering people with disability and want to be part of an organisation that values teamwork, compassion, accountability and professional growth, we'd love to hear from you.

Our Mission:

To provide the highest quality support and services that empower people living with disability to lead fulfilling, independent and valued lives.

Our Values:
  • Ethical and Integrity
  • Customer Service
  • Accountability
  • Respect
  • Connection
About the Role

Working collaboratively within a 2:1 support environment, you will:

  • Deliver individualised, person-centred supports that uphold participant rights, dignity, choice and control.
  • Apply trauma-informed approaches that promote safety, trust, predictability and positive relationships.
  • Support participants with complex and intersecting needs, including psychosocial disability, intellectual disability and behaviours of concern.
  • Implement Positive Behaviour Support Plans using proactive, evidence-informed and least-restrictive approaches.
  • Promote active support, independence and skill development through everyday activities.
  • Facilitate meaningful community participation, social inclusion and connections aligned with participants' interests, preferences and goals.
  • Respect participant autonomy, supported decision-making and dignity of risk.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, allied health professionals and participants' support networks to ensure continuity and consistency of care.
  • Demonstrate strong safeguarding awareness, recognising and responding to risks, changes in presentation and potential concerns.
  • Maintain professional documentation and contribute to safe, accountable and high-quality support delivery.
What We're Looking For

We are seeking experienced, compassionate and capable Disability Support Workers who understand the complexities of supporting individuals with multiple and intersecting support needs. The ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Proven ability to support participants with complex disabilities, psychosocial needs and behaviours of concern, including experience in 2:1 or other high-intensity support environments.
  • An understanding of how trauma can influence behaviour, communication and relationships, with the ability to establish trust, promote emotional safety and provide consistent, respectful support.
  • Confidence implementing individualised Behaviour Support Plans, recognising early indicators of distress and applying proactive, evidence-informed de-escalation strategies.
  • A genuine commitment to participant choice and control, supported decision-making, dignity of risk and least-restrictive approaches.
  • The ability to encourage meaningful community participation, build social connections and support participants to pursue their individual interests, aspirations and goals.
  • Strong awareness of duty of care, participant rights, professional boundaries and the importance of recognising, responding to and escalating concerns.
  • The ability to work effectively within a 2:1 staffing arrangement, maintain consistent support approaches and collaborate with colleagues, families and allied health professionals.
  • A calm, patient and flexible approach, with the confidence to respond appropriately to changing circumstances and complex situations.
  • A willingness to engage in ongoing learning, reflective practice, professional development and continuous improvement.
  • A commitment to accurate, timely and comprehensive documentation, including progress notes, incident reporting, participant records and other required service documentation, ensuring compliance with organisational procedures.
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Minimum two years' demonstrated experience supporting people with disability, including individuals with complex support needs and/or behaviours of concern.
