  • Ongoing role for Director, (Public Service Senior Executive Band 1) located in Martin Place, Sydney with competitive remuneration package.

About the Role

This is a new opportunity for a Director, Financial Control and Procurement to join the Finance and Operations Branch supporting the Premier’s Department and The Cabinet Office.

You will lead the strategic financial control and procurement functions for both departments, ensuring they can meet current and emerging business needs through sound financial oversight, effective procurement practices, and robust budget management and reporting.

About You

You are an experienced accountant with a strong compliance mindset, sound risk awareness and the ability to build trusted partnerships across a complex organisation. You bring positive, inclusive leadership and can provide clear guidance to your team, senior executives and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the departments’ financial control and procurement functions.
  • Oversee procurement policy and provide practical advice on best practice.
  • Provide expert financial advice to senior executives and support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant government policies, financial controls and reporting requirements.
  • Guide the preparation of accurate financial reports and maintain robust budget management systems.
  • Deliver major projects and drive continuous improvement across finance and procurement operations.

We're Looking For

  • Financial leadership: Ability to lead finance and procurement functions, ensuring strong governance and operational excellence across a complex environment
  • Technical expertise: CPA-qualified with deep accounting knowledge and experience in audit and compliance within government frameworks. Extensive experience across financial management disciplines and substantial experience in financial project management.
  • Government knowledge: Skilled in navigating public sector financial policy, legislative requirements, audit requirements and delivering advice that supports informed decision-making. Demonstrated experience in driving the provision of timely and quality insights and evidentiary data to meet Executive, Treasury and other Government requirements.
  • Strategic delivery: Proven capability to manage complex projects, balance competing priorities, and drive improvements in financial performance
  • People leadership: Experienced in building high-performing teams, fostering collaboration, and guiding staff through evolving priorities with confidence
