Export Finance Australia is seeking a Director, Credit to lead the credit function and provide expert independent oversight of substantial and complex transactions. You will advise the Chief Credit Officer and governance committees, shaping credit policy and portfolio strategy while collaborating with enterprise teams across risk, legal and finance.

The role requires senior experience in credit risk, strong financial analysis, and the ability to balance commercial objectives with prudent risk

Qualifications

• 10+ years experience in credit risk, corporate banking, project finance, infrastructure finance or related field.
• Strong knowledge of credit assessment, structuring, financial analysis, security arrangements, risk mitigation and portfolio management.
• Ability to assess and challenge complex or bespoke transactions across sectors and risk classes.

The Director, Credit is a senior member of the Credit department and a trusted adviser to the Chief Credit Officer. The role provides independent credit assessment and constructive challenge across EFA’s most significant and complex transactions, while supporting consistently high credit standards across the broader portfolio.

Credit leadership and independent oversight

• Provide senior credit leadership and independent judgement across complex, material and strategically significant transactions.
• Lead independent assessment across sectors, products and risk classes, ensuring recommendations balance EFA’s mandate, commercial considerations and risk appetite.

Executive and governance advice

• Act as a trusted adviser to the Chief Credit Officer, Transaction Review Committee, Executive and Board on material credit matters.
• Present clear, concise and decision-focused credit advice to senior management and governance committees.
• Support Board and Board Audit & Risk Committee reporting through high-quality credit analysis, portfolio insights and emerging risk commentary.

Credit framework and portfolio stewardship

• Shape and continuously improve EFA’s credit risk framework, policies, methodologies, procedures and delegated authorities.
• Monitor portfolio, sector, geopolitical and macroeconomic developments and assess implications for EFA’s credit exposures and risk settings.

Enterprise collaboration and stakeholder engagement

• Partner with transaction, portfolio, risk, legal and specialist teams to support timely, well-informed decisions.
• Build trusted relationships with senior executives, government stakeholders, financiers and advisers while maintaining an independent credit perspective.
• Contribute expert credit advice and commercial insight to enterprise strategy, organisational priorities and relevant external forums.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

• 10+ years experience
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in banking, finance, economics, commerce or a related discipline
• Postgraduate or professional qualifications are desirable.
• Senior experience in credit risk, corporate banking, project finance, infrastructure finance, export finance or a related financial services field, including assessing complex and structured transactions.
• Strong knowledge of credit assessment, structuring, financial analysis, security arrangements, risk mitigation and portfolio management.
• Ability to assess and constructively challenge complex or bespoke transactions across sectors and risk classes, including project finance, infrastructure, natural resources, energy, sovereign and strategic transactions.
• Ability to balance EFA’s mandate and commercial objectives with prudent risk management, respond to emerging portfolio and external risks, and use data and technology to strengthen analysis and decision-making.
