Job summary

Electro Optic Systems in Canberra seeks an experienced technician to bridge engineering and field operations for our high energy laser system. You will build, integrate and maintain laser hardware, carry out range trials and live demonstrations, and be trained as a system operator for on-range console duties.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or advanced diploma in electrical/electronic/mechatronic discipline or equivalent ADF training.
• Minimum 5 years building, integrating, testing or maintaining complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Experience in military, weapons or range environments with range safety procedures.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams with minimal supervision.
• Experience handling optics and precision assemblies with care.
• Willingness to extended field work across Australia, including after-hours deployments.

Responsibilities

• Build, assemble and integrate laser system hardware across subsystems per drawings and work instructions.
• Fabricate, terminate and test cable harnesses and mechanical assemblies to defence standards.
• Set up, operate and maintain the system during lab tests, range trials and demonstrations.
• Perform fault diagnosis, repair and recalibration of complex equipment.
• Prepare, transport, set up and pack down systems for range activities with heavy hardware.
• Maintain configuration, maintenance and defect records; provide actionable feedback to engineering.
• Contribute to and improve maintenance procedures and training materials based on hands-on experience.
• Uphold shop floor and range safety, following WHS guidelines and laser safety rules.
