Job summary

EOS group in Australia is seeking a skilled technician to bridge engineering and field operations for our high-energy laser weapon systems in the defence and space domains. You will build, integrate and maintain complex electro-mechanical and optical systems, and operate them on the range during live trials and demonstrations.

Role requires hands-on experience with hardware, strong fault-finding skills and the ability to work from engineering drawings.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or Advanced Diploma in electrical, electronic, mechanical or mechatronic discipline, or equivalent ADF training.
• Minimum 5 years in the build, integration, test or maintenance of complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Experience in a military, weapons or range environment, with familiarity with range safety procedures.
• Ability to work from engineering drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams and fault-find with meters and scopes.
• Experience with precision assembly and handling of sensitive equipment, including optics.
• Proven ability to operate complex equipment under supervision and maintain clear records.
• Current driver licence and willingness for extended field work across Australia.

Responsibilities

• Build, assemble and integrate laser system hardware across optical, mechanical, electrical and fluid subsystems, following drawings and instructions.
• Fabricate, terminate and test cable harnesses, fluid lines and mechanical assemblies to defence quality standards.
• Set up, operate and maintain the system during laboratory tests, range trials and customer demonstrations.
• Perform first and second line maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair, including component replacement, recalibration and realignment.
• Prepare, transport, set up and pack down the system for range activities, handling heavy and sensitive assemblies.
• Maintain configuration, maintenance and defect records, and provide detailed feedback to engineering.
• Contribute to and improve work instructions, maintenance procedures, spares lists and training material.
• Uphold safety on the shop floor and at the range, including laser safety, electrical safety and manual handling, per WHS Act.
