Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd. is seeking an experienced Diesel Fitter/Heavy Diesel Mechanic at the Mackay QLD Component Rebuild branch. You will disassemble, inspect, rebuild and test major Caterpillar components, ensuring OEM standards and thorough documentation throughout the process.

The role offers a permanent, Monday to Friday or 4/3 roster, with a strong safety culture, and opportunities for growth within a leading CAT dealership network.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter / Heavy Diesel Mechanic or equivalent.
• Proven experience in component rebuilds within heavy equipment, mining, or mechanical workshop environments.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with fault-finding abilities.
• Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment or components is highly regarded.
• High attention to detail with commitment to workmanship standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and follow specifications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
• Proactive approach to safety and workplace health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on teardown, inspection, rebuild, and testing of major Caterpillar components.
• Diagnose faults and assess wear or damage across components.
• Measure and inspect parts to Caterpillar specifications.
• Perform repairs and replacements to OEM standards and workshop manuals.
• Complete job reports and service documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
• Collaborate with internal teams to meet turnaround times and customer expectations.
