Job summary

Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd in Mackay is seeking an experienced Diesel Fitter to overhaul, refurbish and remanufacture Caterpillar equipment. You will disassemble, inspect, rebuild engines and major components to OEM standards, read technical docs, and ensure quality and safety throughout end-to-end rebuilds.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Plant Mechanic or equivalent.
• Hands-on rebuilding experience with heavy mobile equipment or mining machinery.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read technical drawings and service manuals.
• Commitment to high workmanship and safety standards.
• Willingness to mobilise and hold a current driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, inspect and rebuild Caterpillar engines, transmissions, final drives and hydraulic systems to OEM standards.
• Identify repair requirements and provide accurate repair recommendations.
• Read technical drawings and service documentation to execute rebuilds.
• Perform measurements, fault analysis and quality checks throughout the rebuild.
• Complete documentation for service, inspection and rebuild activities.
• Maintain safe, efficient operations to meet production targets.
