Job summary

Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd in Mackay QLD is seeking experienced Diesel Fitters/Heavy Diesel Mechanics to join the Component Rebuild team. You will disassemble, inspect, rebuild and test major Caterpillar components, ensuring quality, safety and precision.

This permanent role offers Monday–Friday or a 4/3 roster, providing work‑life balance while delivering hands‑on, technically diverse work for mining and heavy equipment sectors.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter/Heavy Diesel Mechanic or equivalent.
• Proven experience in component rebuilds within heavy equipment, mining or mechanical workshop environments.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with fault-finding abilities.
• Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment is highly regarded.
• High attention to detail and commitment to workmanship standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and follow specifications.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team.
• Proactive safety mindset and adherence to workplace health and safety.

You will be responsible for the disassembly, inspection, rebuild and testing of major Caterpillar components, working within our specialised team, focused on quality, safety and precision.

This position offers hands‑on technical work across a wide range of heavy equipment components, giving you excellent variety while playing a key role in helping our customers keep their operations running smoothly.

What you’ll need

A successful teammate will have experience in:

• Qualified professional – trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter / Heavy Diesel Mechanic or equivalent.
• Industry experience – proven experience in component rebuilds within heavy equipment, mining, or mechanical workshop environments.
• Technically skilled – strong mechanical aptitude with well‑developed fault‑finding abilities.
• Caterpillar experience (highly regarded) – familiarity working with Caterpillar equipment or components .
• Quality focused – high attention to detail with a strong commitment to workmanship standards.
• Technically capable – ability to read and interpret technical manuals and follow detailed specifications.
• Strong communicator – effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Safety driven – proactive approach to maintaining workplace health and safety at all times.
