Job summary

Hastings Deering in Toowoomba is seeking experienced Diesel Technicians to join our Power Systems workshop. You will diagnose, repair, overhaul and maintain Caterpillar diesel and gas engines, generator sets and power system components in a modern workshop.

The role is permanent, Monday to Friday, offering exposure to world-class CAT equipment and structured career growth within a leading dealership network across Australia.

Qualifications

• Trade qualifications – Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent diesel fitter trade.
• Caterpillar product knowledge – experience working on CAT machinery, systems and diagnostic tooling.
• Engine servicing and overhauling experience on diesel and gas engines.
• Generator servicing and repair experience for Caterpillar diesel generators.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.

Responsibilities

• Deliver expert mechanical service – diagnostics, repairs and maintenance on CAT diesel and gas engines, generator sets and power systems.
• Maintain equipment reliability – perform engine overhauls and component rebuilds.
• Apply technical precision – use CAT systems, service information and diagnostic tooling to meet OEM standards.
• Champion safety – follow safety procedures and site requirements to uphold No Harm culture.

We're looking for experienced Diesel Technicians to join our team in Toowoomba, working within our Power Systems workshop. In this role, you'll diagnose, repair, overhaul and maintain Caterpillar diesel and gas engines, generator sets and associated power system components in a modern workshop environment. This is a Permanent, Monday to Friday role.

What you’ll need

A successful teammate will have:

• Trade qualifications – Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent diesel fitter trade.
• Caterpillar product knowledge – experience working on CAT machinery, systems and diagnostic tooling (Desirable but not essential.
• Engine Experience - Experience servicing and overhauling diesel and gas engines.
• Generator expertise – strong hands-on experience servicing and repairing Caterpillar diesel generators in field environments.
• Strong troubleshooting skills – ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults independently.
• Customer-focused mindset – confident in building relationships, managing expectations and providing clear updates.
• Safety-first approach – committed to maintaining high WHS standards at all times.
