Job summary

HiTalent Recruitment partnered with a respected Canberra-based organisation to recruit a DFV Social Worker for trauma-informed counselling, advocacy and crisis intervention.

You will support victim-survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and trauma, including their families, across counselling, advocacy and outreach activities.

Qualifications

• Degree qualification in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology.
• Experience in domestic and family violence, sexual violence, trauma, crisis intervention or related community services.
• Strong trauma-informed and client-centred practice.
• Experience with risk assessment and safety planning.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Domestic & Family Violence | Sexual Violence | Crisis Intervention

Make a meaningful difference supporting victim-survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence through trauma-informed counselling, advocacy and crisis intervention.

HiTalent Recruitment is partnering with a highly respected specialist community organisation in Canberra to recruit an experienced DFV Social Worker to join their crisis and trauma support service.

This is an opportunity to provide specialist support to women, men, children and young people who have experienced sexual violence, domestic and family violence and complex trauma, as well as their non-offending family members and supporters.

About the Role

As a DFV Social Worker, you will provide trauma-informed, client-led counselling and crisis support to people impacted by domestic and family violence, sexual violence and complex trauma.

You will provide counselling, advocacy, information, referrals and practical support while assisting clients to navigate health, legal, police, forensic and community service systems.

The position also participates in a crisis response roster, providing telephone crisis intervention and attending medical, police and forensic services when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed, client-led counselling and support
• Support adults, children and young people impacted by violence and trauma
• Conduct risk assessments and safety planning
• Provide immediate crisis intervention and ongoing support
• Participate in crisis call-outs when required
• Provide telephone crisis intervention and after-hours support
• Attend medical, police and forensic services to support victim-survivors
• Provide advocacy, information and appropriate referrals
• Support clients navigating the criminal justice system
• Deliver community-based outreach services
• Prepare professional reports and support letters for external agencies and courts
• Assist with victim impact statements where appropriate
• Develop and facilitate education and training where required
• Maintain confidential and accurate client records and service data
• Manage your own caseload and competing priorities

What We're Looking For

• Degree qualification in Social Work, Counselling OR Psychology
• Experience within domestic and family violence, sexual violence, trauma, crisis intervention or related community services
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed and client-centred practice
• Experience with risk assessment, safety planning and safeguarding
• Strong counselling, advocacy and case management skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage priorities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with health, legal, police and community services
• Demonstrated cultural awareness and culturally appropriate practice
• Commitment to confidentiality, equality, diversity and human rights
• Current Driver's Licence
• Current WWVP Card

Highly Regarded

• DFV or sexual violence service experience
• Crisis response or crisis counselling experience
• Experience supporting victim-survivors through police, forensic or court processes
• Experience working with children and young people impacted by trauma
• Knowledge of the ACT community services sector
• Community outreach experience

Crisis Response & Roster

The service provides crisis support 7 days per week, with telephone crisis support operating between 7:00am and 11:00pm.

The roster can include:

• Morning, afternoon and evening shifts
• Telephone crisis intervention
• Crisis call-outs
• Medical and forensic support
• Police-related support

Applicable penalty rates and loadings are paid in addition to the base rate.
