Job summary

Innova Search is partnering with a well-established SaaS scaleup in Australia to recruit an experienced DevOps Lead Engineer. You will own the AWS platform end to end and lead the DevOps function while staying hands-on.

You will manage CI/CD, infrastructure as code with Terraform, and observability, ensuring security and reliability across a containerised ECS environment. Hybrid work 2–3 days in Sydney with a strong salary package.

Job description

Innova Search is working exclusively with a well-established SaaS scaleup in Australia who are looking for an experienced DevOps Lead Engineer.

You must come from an infrastructure or networking background and have experience working in a fast paced SaaS scaleup or startup.

The opportunity

You would own the AWS platform end to end and lead the DevOps function while staying hands-on yourself.

What you'll own

• The AWS platform. Compute, networking, storage and IAM across a containerised estate on ECS. You own how it runs and what it costs.
• Infrastructure as code. The Terraform codebase is yours: modules, state, multiple environments, kept clean as the team grows.
• Releases. CI/CD from merge to production, with staged rollouts, working rollback, and a clear line from a build number to what is running.
• Observability and SLOs. Instrumentation standards, dashboards, and service level objectives agreed with the engineers who own each service.
• Reliability and security. Incident response and postmortems that lead to change, the on-call rotation, and network-level security: segmentation, access control, and acting on external penetration test findings.

What you'll bring

• You must have experience working in a fast-paced SaaS product firm.
• Your background is infrastructure and networks. You have built and run systems yourself, and that grounding matters here more than a software engineering track.
• Several years running production infrastructure on AWS, with real on-call experience.
• Containers in production at scale, on ECS or a close equivalent.
• Strong Terraform across a multi-environment codebase, including state and drift at scale.
• You have owned CI/CD end to end. The current pipeline runs on Jenkins; GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or similar carries over.
• Practical observability work, including instrumenting applications.
• Solid Linux and networking fundamentals, and the security judgement to anticipate what a penetration test will find.
• You notice when something should be better and push it forward without being asked.
