Job summary

Public Sector People are working with a Regional Council in Australia to recruit an experienced Development Compliance Officer for a temporary full-time contract, until August 2027, with potential extension or direct appointment for the right candidate. The role supports compliance functions through investigations, enforcement, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory service delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience in compliance, enforcement, regulatory investigations, or a related local government environment.
• Sound knowledge of local laws, planning schemes, development legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
• A Certificate qualification in local government compliance or relevant compliance/enforcement experience. A tertiary qualification in land use planning will be highly regarded.
• A current C Class Driver Licence.

Responsibilities

• Undertake inspections, investigations and complaint management relating to Council's planning scheme, local laws and relevant State legislation.
• Prepare investigation reports, evidence briefs, notices and recommendations regarding enforcement actions.
• Initiate and manage enforcement processes, including preparing matters for court proceedings and attending court when required.
• Assess and process permits and approvals under the guidance of the Team Leader Development Compliance.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to provide advice and updates on compliance matters.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with Council policies and legislative requirements.
