Job summary

The Salvation Army Australia is seeking a registered nurse to provide specialised withdrawal management (detox) nursing services in Sydney. You will deliver safe, evidence-based, person-centered care to individuals during withdrawal, conducting assessments, medication management and referrals as part of a holistic care approach.

Reporting to the Nursing Team Leader, this permanent part-time role (3 days a week) is based in Surry Hills.

Qualifications

• Tertiary nursing qualification with current AHPRA registration.
• Minimum two years’ nursing experience in a relevant clinical setting.
• Ability to manage complex health needs and de-escalate challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing assessments and withdrawal management per clinical guidelines.
• Medication management and administration for withdrawal symptoms.
• Liaise with visiting medical officers and addiction medicine services.
• Complete admission and discharge processes and comprehensive handovers.
• Develop individualised case plans and discharge planning.
• Identify risks and escalate to line manager as needed.
• Deliver education and support groups on health, wellbeing and harm minimisation.
• Respond effectively to unpredictable situations with de-escalation techniques.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery.
