The Queensland Government is seeking Detention Youth Workers to help keep young people safe and well while they are in detention and to support their transition back into the community.

You will encourage positive behaviour, reinforce rules, deliver sensitive activities, and be a trusted person for young people to speak with. Regular wellbeing checks will be conducted day and night to ensure safety and constructive engagement.

• Ensure young people are kept safe and well while they are in detention.
• Promote and reinforce positive behavior to help youths integrate back into the community.
• Help youths understand and follow the rules of the centre.
• Deliver activities that are sensitive to gender, cultural beliefs, and health needs.
• Be a trusted person young people can talk to when needed.
• Regularly check on young people during day and night to ensure wellbeing.
• Engage young people in constructive activities.

The department is committed to keeping Queensland communities safe, supporting victims, and actively tackling the complex causes of youth crime and targeting serious repeat offenders.

As a Detention Youth Worker, you will be responsible for ensuring young people are kept safe and well while they are in detention.

You Will Be Someone Who

• Encourages young people to make good decisions by promoting and reinforcing positive behaviour to help them integrate back into the community.
• Helps young people understand and follow the rules of the centre.
• Delivers activities that are sensitive to gender, cultural beliefs, and health needs.
• Is a trusted individual young people can talk to if needed.
• Regularly checks on young people during the day and night to ensure their wellbeing.
• Engages young people in constructive activities.
