Queensland Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support in Townsville seeks a Detention Youth Worker to safeguard and support young people in detention. You will promote positive behaviour, ensure safety, and assist their development within the centre.

You will work to apply centre rules, deliver inclusive activities, manage challenging behaviour when needed, and communicate professionally with staff, families and community stakeholders to support transitions back into the community.

Responsabilidades

• Maintain safety and security of the youth detention centre per departmental procedures.
• Contribute to a safe accommodation environment and in behaviour management, including use of restraint as a last resort.
• Interact and communicate to provide effective services to young people in detention.
• Make ethical, professional decisions and communicate with young people, colleagues and stakeholders.
• Supervise and support young people’s participation in services and programs.
• Write and submit reports using the department’s IT system accurately and timely.
• Meet the needs of detained youths from diverse backgrounds by applying developmental knowledge.
• Communicate respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and understand relevant cultures.
