Job summary

BVN is seeking a Design Technology Lead to provide strategic leadership across architecture, design technology and digital project delivery. You will lead a team of design technology coordinators, partner with Principals and project leaders, and elevate the quality and efficiency of BVN's architectural delivery.

Qualifications

• Degree in Architecture or related field with practice delivery experience.
• Strong proficiency in Rhino, Grasshopper, Unifi, and BIM tools.
• Proven leadership of multi-studio design teams.
• Experience in BIM standards, digital workflows and standards development.
• Excellent advisory and stakeholder communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement BVN's design technology strategy to support design excellence, project delivery and innovation.
• Establish and continuously improve practice-wide digital delivery frameworks, BIM standards and collaboration protocols supporting the design, documentation and delivery of architectural projects.
• Partner with the PPG and project leadership to elevate documentation quality, coordination standards and delivery efficiency.
• Advise project teams and clients on digital delivery strategies, BIM workflows and design technology approaches tailored to project goals and delivery requirements.
• Collaborate with sustainability and technical specialists to embed environmental performance and analysis into core design workflows.
• Identify high-impact opportunities for automation, computational design and workflow efficiency across active projects.

Job description

As Design Technology Lead, you will provide strategic leadership across architecture, design technology and digital project delivery. Working alongside the Chief Information Officer, with guidance and support from the Design Technology Chair, and reporting to the coCEOs, you will lead a team of design technology coordinators and partner with Principals, Project Leaders, the PPG and studio teams to elevate the quality, consistency and efficiency of our architectural delivery.

Bringing a strong architectural background and deep BIM expertise, you will lead practice-wide digital systems, standards and workflows. While ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, you will serve as a forward-thinking voice shaping BVN's creative application of emerging technologies and computational design.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement BVN's design technology strategy to support design excellence, project delivery and innovation.
• Establish and continuously improve practice-wide digital delivery frameworks, BIM standards and collaboration protocols supporting the design, documentation and delivery of architectural projects.

Project Advisory & Integration

• Advise project teams and clients on digital delivery strategies, BIM workflows and design technology approaches tailored to project goals and delivery requirements.
• Collaborate with sustainability and technical specialists to embed environmental performance and analysis into core design workflows.
• Identify high-impact opportunities for automation, computational design and workflow efficiency across active projects.

Capability Building & Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor and grow a high-performing team of design technology specialists.
• Facilitate the Design Technology Network to drive knowledge sharing and best-practice adoption practice-wide.
• Partner with People & Character to develop structured learning and development pathways in BIM and digital delivery.

Innovation & Operations

• Research, test and implement emerging digital tools and computational methodologies.
• Oversee design technology platforms, custom tools, vendor partnerships and software budgeting.
• Support BVN's global studios, including occasional travel as required.

Required

• Degree in Architecture or a closely related architectural discipline, with significant practice experience across design, documentation and delivery.
• Hands-on proficiency with Rhino, Grasshopper, Unifi and computational design tools.
• Expertise in the Autodesk Revit ecosystem and knowledge of relevant Australian and international BIM standards.
• Track record of leading teams, mentoring staff and influencing senior stakeholders across a multi-studio practice.
• Strong advisory, communication and collaborative problem-solving skills.

Preferred

• Experience integrating sustainability and performance analysis workflows into project delivery.
• Experience engaging with external technology partners, consultants and industry bodies.
• Active contributor to industry forums, research or conferences on digital practice.
