Job summary

Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Design Manager to shape and grow its design management function for civil and water infrastructure projects. Based in Sydney or Melbourne, you will provide design leadership across tender development through to project execution, ensuring solutions meet requirements, constraints and construction methods.

• 5+ years' experience in a Design Manager role or similar engineering leadership position.
• Strong understanding of civil design principles and design management practices.

• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing design consultants.

Responsibilities

• Provide design leadership across civil and water infrastructure projects from tender development through to project delivery.
• Align design solutions with project requirements, programme constraints, commercial objectives and construction methodologies.
• Collaborate with project teams, engineering partners, clients and stakeholders to strengthen design management capability.
• Travel and site involvement as required, with office-based design management supporting delivery objectives.

About Us

Abergeldie is a majority locally owned contractor with 30 years’ industry experience in Australia and New Zealand. We design and deliver projects in the Water, Bridges, Transport, Underground, Energy and Remediation industry sectors. Projects include dams, bridges, tunnels, water and wastewater treatment process facilities, rail infrastructure, mining infrastructure, electrical substations, marine works and pipeline rehabilitation: the complex infrastructure needed to build better communities.

About The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the General Manager of Engineering, this is a rare opportunity to help shape and grow Abergeldie's engineering and design management function. You'll play a key role in defining how design management supports both project delivery and our long-term growth, engaging across major civil and water infrastructure opportunities from tender development through to project execution.

Based in Sydney or Melbourne, you'll work across both tender and delivery phases, providing design leadership on complex infrastructure projects and ensuring design solutions align with project requirements, programme constraints, commercial objectives and construction methodologies.

Aligning closely with project teams, engineering partners, clients and key stakeholders, you'll help strengthen design management capability across the business, supporting the successful delivery of projects while driving consistency, collaboration and engineering excellence.

This role combines office-based design management with project and site involvement, ensuring design outcomes are aligned with delivery objectives. Travel may be required from time to time depending on project requirements.

What You'll Bring To The Team

• A degree qualification in Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
• 5+ years' experience in a Design Manager role or a similar engineering leadership position.
• Strong experience in civil infrastructure projects, with water infrastructure experience highly regarded.
• Experience supporting both project tenders and live project delivery.
• Strong understanding of civil design principles, design management practices and the tools, systems and processes that support successful infrastructure project delivery.
• Experience working for a Principal Contractor or construction delivery organisation, is considered highly desirable.
• A collaborative approach and passion for building capability, improving processes and driving engineering excellence.
• The ability to manage design consultants, coordinate multidisciplinary teams and drive successful project outcomes.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and problem-solving skills.
