Job summary

JRG Recruitment has partnered with an established Sydney remedial builder to recruit an experienced Design Manager. Based from the Homebush office, you will lead design coordination and technical aspects across a portfolio of Class 2 remedial projects, coordinating engineers, consultants and project stakeholders.

The role focuses on practical, buildable solutions, compliance, and early resolution of design issues, while working closely with directors and senior management to influence design

Qualifications

• Strong Class 2 remedial building and/or building refurbishment builder-side experience, particularly across design and technical coordination.
• Proven experience managing or coordinating the design process for remedial building projects.
• Strong understanding of remedial building and/or building refurbishment design, documentation and construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process across multiple Class 2 remedial building projects.
• Manage design consultants, engineers, architects and specialist subcontractors.

Are you an experienced Design Manager or construction professional with strong Class 2 remedial building-specific design experience and looking for your next opportunity with an established and highly regarded remedial builder?

Our client is one of Australia's most respected Class 2 remedial builders, with more than 50 years of industry success and offices across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra.

Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Design Manager to join their Sydney team, based from their Homebush office.

This is a senior design and technical role focused on managing and coordinating the design process across multiple Class 2 remedial building projects, while working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Estimators, consultants, engineers, clients and the wider construction team.

The Role

Based from the Homebush office, you'll work closely with the Director and Senior Management Team, taking responsibility for the design coordination and technical aspects across a portfolio of technically challenging Class 2 remedial building projects.

You'll be responsible for ensuring designs are practical, buildable, compliant and aligned with project requirements, while identifying and resolving design and technical issues before they impact construction.

The role will involve working closely with both internal and external stakeholders throughout the design and construction lifecycle, providing technical input and ensuring design deliverables are coordinated and achieved in line with project programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Design Manager, or a construction professional with strong Class 2 remedial building-specific design and technical experience, to take ownership of the design function within an established specialist remedial builder.

We will also consider candidates with strong building refurbishment design management experience and a proven ability to coordinate consultants, engineers and design documentation across complex construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the design process across multiple Class 2 remedial building projects
• Manage design consultants, engineers, architects and specialist subcontractors
• Review and coordinate design documentation, drawings and specifications
• Ensure designs are practical, buildable and aligned with project requirements
• Coordinate design changes, RFIs, technical queries and approvals
• Identify and resolve design issues before they impact construction
• Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Estimators and clients
• Review project scope and identify design, constructability and compliance risks
• Monitor design deliverables, programmes and key project milestones
• Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, NCC and project requirements
• Assist with value engineering and identifying cost-effective design solutions
• Support tendering, estimating and pre-construction activities where required
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and project stakeholders
• Provide technical and design support throughout the construction lifecycle

Class 2 Remedial Building and or Building Refurbishment Works

• Concrete repair & concrete cancer remediation
• Concrete spalling remediation

You’ll need

• Strong Class 2 Remedial Building and or Building Refurbishment Builder-side experience, particularly across design and technical coordination
• Proven experience managing or coordinating the design process for remedial building projects
• Strong understanding of remedial building and or building refurbishment design, documentation and construction
• Bachelor of Construction Management / Building / Construction /Structural Engineering or similar
• Experience coordinating engineers, architects, consultants and specialist subcontractors
• Ability to review and interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation
• Strong understanding of construction methodology, constructability and practical building solutions
• Experience managing RFIs, technical queries, design changes and approvals
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards, NCC and construction compliance
• Ability to identify design, technical and constructability risks before they impact construction
• Experience working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Estimators and clients
• Strong communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills
• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach
• Commercial understanding and an ability to identify cost-effective design solutions
• Experience supporting tendering, estimating or pre-construction activities would be advantageous

Strong Class 2 Remedial Building-specific or Building Refurbishment Builder-side design experience is an essential requirement for this role.
