Job summary

Core Talent is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the design development for renewable energy projects across utility-scale Solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid setups. You will drive design from concept through construction, collaborating with development, engineering, procurement, consultants, contractors and network stakeholders.

The role requires strong knowledge of Australian electrical design practices and the ability to coordinate multiple engineering

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development across Solar PV, BESS and hybrid projects.
• Develop and optimise conceptual designs around site constraints, CAPEX, OPEX, reliability and performance.
• Manage external design consultants and review their outputs.
• Coordinate engineering disciplines and key project interfaces.
• Work with procurement and engineering teams on equipment selection and design requirements.
• Manage design interfaces and identify potential project risks early.
• Review contractor designs to ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Develop standardised design approaches to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Manager to join a growing renewable energy business, working across utility-scale Solar PV, BESS and hybrid projects.

You will lead and coordinate design development from early-stage concept through to construction, working closely with development, engineering, procurement, consultants, contractors and network stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design development across Solar PV, BESS and hybrid projects.
• Develop and optimise conceptual designs around site constraints, CAPEX, OPEX, reliability and performance.
• Manage external design consultants and review their technical outputs.
• Coordinate engineering disciplines and key project interfaces.
• Work with procurement and engineering teams on equipment selection and design requirements.
• Manage TNSP design interfaces and identify potential project risks early.
• Review contractor designs to ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Develop standardised design approaches to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

About You

• Relevant tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong experience in renewable energy design, ideally across Solar PV and BESS.
• Strong understanding of Australian electrical design practices.
• Experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines and external consultants.
• Ability to review and challenge designs from a whole-of-project perspective.
• Strong understanding of project schedules, risk and commercial considerations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Highly organised, proactive and solutions-focused.
• Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
