Job summary

Laing O’Rourke is seeking a Design Leader to join the AUKUS team for the NPSCY project in Osborne, SA. You will develop and lead the project’s design capability, coordinating with leaders to identify and mitigate design risks while ensuring alignment with stringent project objectives.

The role requires an Engineering degree with Chartered status, advanced experience in design/engineering/construction, and prior high-risk construction exposure.

Qualifications

  • Degree in an Engineering Discipline with Chartered Professional Engineer status or equivalent.
  • Advanced experience in the Design/Engineering/Construction field.
  • Previous experience working in high-risk construction industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the design capability on the project.
  • Collaborate with project leaders to identify, assess, and manage design risks across the project, ensuring robust risk mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Oversee the design process, including formulation of design methodologies and management of design and technical risks.
  • Provide continuous oversight and conduct regular design health checks to ensure adherence to design standards and project objectives.

Laing O’Rourke, with joint venture partner Amentum Australia, will play a central role in supporting Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) to develop and deliver the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) project at Osborne, South Australia. We will provide program and construction management services of nuclear related civil infrastructure, site‑wide nuclear licensee development expertise, and nuclear safety leadership. We are currently seeking a Design Leader to join our AUKUS team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead the design capability on the project.

About You
  • Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Civil/Mechanical/ Electrical/Geotechnical) with Chartered Professional Engineer status or equivalent.
  • Advanced experience in the Design/Engineering/ Construction field.
  • Previous experience working in high-risk construction industry
  • Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level.
