Job summary

Laing O’Rourke is seeking a Design Leader to join our AUKUS team delivering the NPSCY project at Osborne, SA. You will develop and lead the design capability, collaborating with project leaders to identify and manage design risks, and oversee design methodologies and health checks.

Applicants must hold an Engineering degree with Chartered Professional Engineer status and have advanced experience in design, engineering and construction in a high-risk environment.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree with Chartered Professional Engineer status or equivalent.
• Advanced experience in design, engineering and construction.
• Experience in high-risk construction environments.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain NV1 security clearance.

Laing O’Rourke, with joint venture partner Amentum Australia, will play a central role in supporting Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) to develop and deliver the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) project at Osborne, South Australia. We will provide program and construction management services of nuclear related civil infrastructure, site‑wide nuclear licensee development expertise, and nuclear safety leadership.

We are currently seeking a Design Leader to join our AUKUS team.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and lead the design capability on the project.
• Collaborate with project leaders to identify, assess, and manage design risks across the project, ensuring robust risk mitigation strategies are in place
• Oversee the design process, including the formulation of design methodologies and the management of design and technical risks
• Provide continuous oversight and conduct regular design health checks on the project to ensure adherence to design standards and project objectives.

About You

• Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Civil/Mechanical/ Electrical/Geotechnical) with Chartered Professional Engineer status or equivalent.
• Advanced experience in the Design/Engineering/ Construction field.
• Previous experience working in high-risk construction industry
• Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level.
