Job summary

Chart Industries, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer to plan, coordinate and manage professional engineering work for rotating machinery and process equipment.

You will lead design activities, develop 3D models, and produce manufacturing drawings while ensuring compliance with codes and safety standards. The role requires a Master of Engineering and at least three years of related experience, proficiency in 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor) and Autodesk Vault, plus experience with FEM analysis.

Qualifications

• Master of Engineering degree required.
• Engineering degree in an appropriate discipline.

• Strong skills in AutoCAD, Inventor and Vault.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and manage professional engineering work without supervision.
• Lead design activities for projects and report to the Project Manager.
• Produce 3D models and manufacturing drawings with the drafting team.
• Monitor quality, timeliness and cost of design delivery.
• Administer contracts for external design resources.
• Plan interfaces between clients, designers and suppliers.
• Ensure designs comply with codes, standards and safety requirements.
• Attend site visits to confirm project requirements.

• Plan and execute complex professional / product engineering work which requires individual judgement and initiative in the application of engineering principals, techniques and methods on all Howden products.
• Key products include:
  • Fans and blowers for mining, industrial and tunnel ventilation applications, including centrifugal, axial and mixed flow types.
  • Screw compressor packages for mine cooling and industrial cooling applications.
• Ensure that projects and services are executed on budget, on time and to the required engineering and design standards.

What Will You Do?

• Plan, coordinate and manage professional engineering works without supervision
• Lead the design activities for a specific project, reporting functionally to the Project Manager for those activities
• Produce 3D models and coordinate with drafting team to produce manufacturing drawings.
• Monitor and control the quality, timeliness and cost of delivery of design works
• Manage design resource allocation to maximise efficiency and effectiveness
• Administer, both technically and commercially, contracts for external design resources
• Plan and manage interfaces between clients, designers, consultants, suppliers, and project staff
• Manage the effect of design changes in terms of technical, budget and schedule
• Fulfil the role of Designer, Checker, Verifier, and/or Design Lead in the provision of engineering works
• Certify professional engineering work as being compliant with relevant codes and standards
• Attend site, supplier or customer premises to ascertain or confirm project requirements
• Carry out detailed engineering calculations
• Develop detailed designs in sketch and drawing format
• Develop technical specification documents and reports
• Evaluate and make recommendations on technical aspects of supplier offers
• Participate and positively contribute in meetings and workshops
• Provide technical support for tendering, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance activities
• Provide ad-hoc technical advice to management, projects and tendering personnel
• Conduct ad-hoc tasks which are indirectly related to the position
• Continually develop engineering skills
• Provide support to drawing office.
• Assess repair work scopes and compile repair procedures.
• Offer solutions to the works regarding manufacturing / construction non-conformances and rectifications in order to assist the works.
• Lead, supervise, guide and mentor less experienced engineering staff
• Carry out & verify work to comply with applicable national & international codes & standards.
• Ensure designs adhere to health and safety standards and comply to legislative requirements thereby providing products where risks of injury have been minimised and thus providing a safe working environment.
• Provide input at design reviews to ensure designs are in accordance to Howden standards and conform to clients’ requirements.
• Plan, coordinate and manage professional engineering work for which it is necessary to modify proven approaches, devise new techniques with continuous improvement approach.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require...
