Position overview

The Deputy Manager, Future Students (Domestic) is a member of the Future Students Domestic team within the IFS portfolio. Reporting to, and receiving broad direction from the Manager, Future Students (Domestic), the position provides day-to-day leadership and management of a mid-sized recruitment team, while contributing to the development and implementation of domestic student recruitment strategies, market plans and initiatives. The role requires strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate University priorities into practical plans, with a focus on managing the recruitment pipeline, supporting conversion and achieving recruitment targets.

The position is responsible for monitoring team performance against KPIs and recruitment targets, providing regular reporting and insights to the Manager and supporting reporting to the Associate Director, Future Students (Domestic). While providing strategic and operational leadership, the Deputy Manager remains hands-on in recruitment delivery, including attending events, engaging directly with prospective students and maintaining strong relationships with schools and other stakeholders. The role works closely with stakeholders to ensure recruitment activity is coordinated, responsive to the market and aligned with the University’s broader objectives.

The Area

The International and Future Students (IFS) portfolio brings together international and domestic recruitment, strategy, market research, admissions, scholarships and the ANU International Office. The portfolio is responsible for delivering high-quality communications and experiences for future students in accordance with the University’s strategic objectives.

The Future Students team leads domestic and international student acquisition for The Australian National University (ANU). The team builds and maintains a wide range of relationships, including with education agents, sponsoring organisations, government ministries, and high schools in Australia and overseas. We deliver a busy program of online and in-person events to connect with prospective students, build awareness of ANU and support engagement across Australia and internationally. The team also manages a significant volume of inbound enquiries, helping students and their families navigate their questions and explore their options.

Beyond generating interest, the team plays an important role in managing the student pipeline and supporting students throughout their journey to ANU, from initial awareness and enquiry, through to application, offer, acceptance and enrolment. This includes targeted conversion activity and personalised engagement to help students make informed decisions and stay connected with ANU at key points in the journey.
