Numbers Executive's client, a leading Australian energy and infrastructure investor, seeks a Deputy CFO in Melbourne. You will lead the financial and management reporting cycle, own budgeting and forecasting, and track project performance across a fast‑growing portfolio.
You will oversee treasury, internal controls, and the finance team, while partnering with investment and business development teams on strategic papers and investor communications.
Our client is the Australian investment arm of a global energy company and one of the world’s largest low‑carbon electricity producers. Investing across the full electricity value chain, from wind, solar and storage to transmission, pumped hydro and industrial decarbonisation, and backed by long‑term capital and global technical depth, the business is now delivering a large pipeline of capital‑intensive projects. It is seeking a Deputy CFO to join its Melbourne team.
Reporting to the CFO, you will be their right hand in steering the financial performance of the Australian business. You will own the financial and management reporting cycle end to end, delivering timely, insightful consolidated reporting packs for local leadership and global stakeholders, with variance analysis against budget and forecast and clear commentary on business and project performance. You will lead the annual budget and reforecasting processes, bringing greater insight and visibility to both. Once projects reach financial close, you will own their performance across the portfolio, tracking returns (EIRR, NPV), lender covenants and internal investment commitments. You will work closely with the investment and business development teams on transactions, investment papers, financial presentations and RFP responses, and manage relationships with partners and external advisers, including audit and tax. You will also oversee treasury and cash flow, strengthen internal controls and policies, and lead, mentor and grow a high‑performing finance team as the business expands.
You will be a CA or CPA qualified finance leader with a relevant degree and 10+ years’ experience in senior corporate finance roles, ideally within the infrastructure or energy sector or another capital‑intensive industry. You will bring deep expertise in management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and project financial performance, along with a strong command of statutory and financial reporting. A hands‑on leader, you will enjoy shaping strategy while remaining close to the detail. You have excellent analytical skills and commercial judgement, and the communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. You also have the drive to build the internal controls, processes and teams needed to support the business as it continues to grow. Prior experience in global, matrixed organisations will be highly regarded.
This is an outstanding opportunity to play a central role in a business that is scaling quickly, with real influence over how its finance function develops and genuine scope for future career growth.
