Job description

Casual position (roughly 1 to 2 days per week) VPS Grade 3.1 ($51.37 per hour, including 25% casual loading, plus superannuation).

Location: Opportunities in Mildura and Shepparton.

About this opportunity

As part of the Public Engagement Branch, this role supports the development and delivery of community education programs and engagement as part of our Electoral Participation Plan. As a Democracy Ambassador, this role exists to strengthen electoral participation by building awareness, understanding and trust in the electoral process across diverse and underrepresented communities. You may not have done this work previously and that's ok, we welcome individuals who hold a strong interest to apply to find out more.

About the team

The Public Engagement Branch works with local communities and partner organisations to understand people's experiences, reduce barriers to participation, and build trust in our electoral processes. It does this by designing and delivering community education programs and resources, and developing active partnerships with community organisations to support our work.

The Public Engagement Branch works with all Victorians, with a particular focus on young people, multicultural communities, people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, people experiencing homelessness, and people who have been incarcerated.

A day in the life of a Democracy Ambassador

You will work with the Senior Manager, Location-based Engagement to plan and deliver the Electoral Participation plan. This might look like: delivering education and information sessions directly to community members, community leaders, and volunteer and paid staff at partner organisations or developing relationships with partner organisations and community groups.

You will work as the on the ground representative of the Public Engagement Branch in either the Shepparton or Mildura/Mallee region. This might mean meeting with staff, coordinating programs, or discussing feedback and potential education opportunities with partner organisations.

About you

• Demonstrated interest and ability to deliver information and education sessions in community settings, including managing logistics such as travel, materials, and venue setup/pack-down.
• Ability and experience supporting the planning and development of community projects or programs.
• Ability to adapt and work flexibly in dynamic environments, effectively responding to shifting priorities and varying circumstances to achieve desired outcomes.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrated interest in community engagement, civic participation or advocacy.
• Builds effective relationships with community groups, organisations and stakeholders.
