Job summary

Alzheimer’s Queensland is seeking compassionate Dementia Respite Assistants for our Mount Gravatt centre in Brisbane. This casual, centre-based role supports clients living with dementia and frail older adults, building meaningful connections and promoting participation in activities.

The role requires a Certificate III in Aged Care or Equivalent, strong communication, First Aid and CPR, and a valid driver’s licence. Availability to work afternoons, weekends, and some overnights is desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting older people or those living with dementia (community, respite, or residential).
• Strong communication and a kind, patient approach.
• Current First Aid & CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Support frail aged clients and people living with dementia in a welcoming environment.
• Provide centre-based respite care.

Alzheimer’s Queensland (AQ) is a leading not-for-profit supporting older people to live well at home. We’re looking for compassionate and experienced Dementia Respite Assistants to join our team at our Mount Gravatt centre.

About the Role

This is a hands‑on role where no two days are the same. You’ll support clients in a centre‑based respite setting—building genuine connections, encouraging participation, and helping create meaningful, enjoyable days. What You’ll Be Doing

• Supporting frail aged clients and people living with dementia in a welcoming, engaging environment
• Providing centre-based respite care
• Building strong, trusting relationships with clients and their families
• Encouraging independence and participation in meaningful activities
• Working alongside a supportive team to help every client have a “good day”

What You’ll Bring

• Experience supporting older people and those living with dementia (community, respite, or residential)
• Certificate III in Aged Care, Individual Support, or similar
• Strong communication skills and a kind, patient approach

Availability

Our centres operate Monday to Sunday.Flexibility to work afternoons, weekends, and occasional overnight shifts will be highly regarded.
