Job summary

Journey Beyond is seeking a Deckhand to join our Sydney Harbour operations, including Captain Cook Cruises, The Jackson and Starship Group vessels. You will berth vessels, welcome guests, assist embarkation/disembarkation, and support on-deck duties across multiple ships.

You will participate in safety drills, maintain decks and cabins, assist with hospitality services on charter trips, and work closely with the Master and crew to ensure on-time departures and a high standard of guest experience.

Qualifications

• Certificate I in Maritime Operations (General Purpose Hand) — Essential
• Current First Aid certificate — Essential
• Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate — Essential
• Working With Children Check (ferry fleet) — Essential
• Previous experience working onboard a commercial vessel, or in a customer service or hospitality role — Desirable

Responsibilities

• Handling lines and rigging to berth and unberth vessels safely
• Welcoming guests aboard and helping them embark and disembark safely, including those who need extra assistance
• Keeping watch as a lookout and reporting hazards early
• Taking part in safety drills and being part of the emergency response team
• Keeping decks, cabins and common areas spotless
• Supporting food and beverage service on charter vessels, including responsible service of alcohol
• Carrying out routine deck checks and reporting defects so vessels stay in top condition
• Working with the Master, Cruise Director and crew to keep every cruise on time
