Job summary

UKG in Sydney, Australia, seeks an experienced Production DBA to own SQL Server and PostgreSQL across OLTP, ETL, and analytics workloads. You will lead L1/L2 DBAs, drive incident response, capacity planning, and automation to improve reliability.

This role requires 7+ years in production DBAs, certifications, and a collaborative mindset supporting global teams. You will implement monitoring, high availability, DR, and SOPs, ensuring security and audit readiness.

Responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end database support for SQL Server and PostgreSQL (EDB & Community).
• Lead and mentor L1/L2 DBAs, driving troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Design and implement monitoring and alerting frameworks.
• Troubleshoot performance issues across OLTP, ETL, reporting, and data warehouse workloads.
• Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
• Develop and maintain database automation and operational tooling.
• Establish SOPs and best practices; collaborate with Engineering, Infra, and Platform teams for release and change management.

Job description

Must be open to working in a 24x7 support model, including:

• Off-hours/on-call rotations
• Weekends and holidays
• Incident bridge participation during high-severity outages

Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and operational discipline is critical.

Database Platforms SQL Server (Primary): Installation, upgrades, patching, performance tuning

PostgreSQL: Administration, tuning, replication, extension management

Execution plans, indexing strategies, query optimization

PostgreSQL query planning and VACUUM strategies

Observability-driven mindset using SLI/SLO metrics

Cloud SQL / Managed DB services

Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or similar) CI/CD pipelines PowerShell, Shell, Python Automation-first approach for operational efficiency

Windows Server (for SQL Server) Linux environments (for PostgreSQL)

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science / IT or equivalent
