Job summary

Our client is a vibrant higher education institution with campuses across the UK, Ireland and Germany, seeking an Information Governance and Compliance Manager to lead information governance, data protection and regulatory compliance. You will serve as the designated Data Protection Officer, guiding policy and assurance at senior levels.

Qualifications

• Experience leading information governance, data protection and regulatory compliance within a complex organisation.
• Experience advising senior stakeholders and influencing governance and risk decisions.
• Experience developing policies, procedures and governance frameworks for regulatory compliance and information management.
• Experience handling Information Rights requests, privacy risks, and related investigations or incidents.
• Detailed knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, FOI, Environmental Information Regulations and related requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to assess risk and implement proportional solutions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management to explain complex regulatory requirements clearly.

Responsibilities

• Lead the information governance and data protection framework, ensuring compliance with legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Act as the designated Data Protection Officer, providing guidance to senior leaders and stakeholders.
• Develop and continuously improve policies, procedures and governance frameworks for information management.
• Monitor compliance, identify risks and lead mitigation and improvement activities.
• Develop and maintain governance, monitoring and reporting for senior leaders and committees.
• Lead response to Information Rights requests (e.g., Subject Access, FOI).
• Advise on Data Protection Impact Assessments, information sharing, privacy risks and lawful data use.
• Lead incident management including investigations, risk assessments and regulatory reporting.
• Support records management, retention and disposal practices.
• Deliver training and awareness activities to strengthen governance understanding across the institution.
• Provide input into projects ensuring governance considerations are embedded from the outset.
