Job summary

Merivale, a family-owned hospitality group with 90 venues across Australia, seeks a Data Platform Specialist to join the Technology team. You will build reliable data platforms, develop reporting tools, and explore AI/automation to turn data into practical insights for venues and the head office.

You will maintain data pipelines, work with Snowflake, dbt, Python, and Power BI to deliver self-serve dashboards, ensure data governance, and support forecasting and machine learning initiatives across

Qualifications

• Five+ years in data platforms and BI analytics roles.
• Hands-on data warehousing, modelling, SQL Server, and Power BI.
• Understanding of AI and automation concepts incl. ML and GenAI.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, and quality management.
• Attention to detail; able to work independently and in teams.
• Tertiary qualification in IT, Data & Analytics, CS, Engineering, or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support data pipelines, integrations and ELT processes.
• Manage dbt models and Snowflake administration and performance.
• Develop and improve Power BI dashboards and semantic models.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into analytics.
• Maintain data quality, security and governance.
• Investigate data platform issues and support end-to-end deployment.
• Assist AI/ML initiatives, including forecasting and automation opportunities.

Job Description

Behind every great guest experience is a team making it happen. We’re looking for a Data Platform Specialist to join Merivale’s Technology team, helping turn data into practical insights across our portfolio of restaurants, bars, pubs and events.

Working within our Data team, you’ll help build and maintain reliable data platforms, develop reporting tools and explore opportunities for AI and automation. From improving data pipelines to creating dashboards that support everyday decisions, your work will connect technology with the needs of our venues and head office teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and supporting data pipelines, integrations and ELT processes across business applications and platforms.
• Building and maintaining dbt transformation models, and supporting Snowflake administration, monitoring and performance optimisation.
• Developing and improving Power BI dashboards, reporting and semantic models, including reusable datasets for self-service reporting.
• Working with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into practical data and analytics solutions.
• Maintaining data quality, security and governance through validation, reconciliation and ongoing monitoring.
• Investigating and resolving data platform issues, maintaining documentation and supporting projects from requirements through to deployment.
• Supporting AI and machine learning initiatives, including forecasting, reporting and opportunities to automate manual processes.

Qualifications

You’re analytical, curious and comfortable working through complex problems. You can explain technical ideas clearly, build strong relationships and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll also bring:

• At least five years’ experience in data platforms and BI analytics roles.
• Hands-on experience with data warehousing, data modelling, SQL Server and Power BI.
• An understanding of AI and automation concepts, including machine learning and generative AI.
• Sound knowledge of data governance, security and quality management.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently and within project teams.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in IT, Data & Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Python and data automation will be highly regarded, as will experience in hospitality, retail, consumer or multi-site businesses.
