Job summary

Airtasker is hiring a Data Platform Engineer to build and operate data infrastructure powering analytics and AI across the business. You will own core pipelines, scale AWS-based infrastructure, and evolve our Dagster orchestration, while enabling self-service analytics and trusted data products.

This hands-on role requires strong SQL, dbt experience, Python scripting, and collaboration with analysts, data scientists and engineers to automate workflows and production ML use cases.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of the data lifecycle from ingestion to analysis.
• Strong SQL skills for data modelling, transformation and analysis.
• Hands-on experience using dbt in a professional or personal project setting.
• Familiarity with software engineering principles, including version control, testing and CI/CD.
• Experience using Python for scripting, automation, or data manipulation.
• Able to translate business problems into clear data models and pipelines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and comfort with ambiguity and evolving requirements.
• Collaborative mindset and eagerness to deliver meaningful business outcomes through data.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain core data pipelines using dbt, SQL and Python for analytics and downstream use cases.
• Scale our data platform by designing and operating AWS-based infrastructure (Terraform).
• Strengthen orchestration with a Dagster-based platform, improving monitoring and reliability.
• Enable self-service analytics by delivering foundational datasets and tooling.
• Improve data quality and trust with CI/CD, testing and documentation practices.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists and engineers to automate workflows and production ML use cases.
