Job description

Data Platform Engineer

Company: Oxyshred (EHPlabs Pty Ltd)

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role:

The Data Platform Engineer is responsible for building and running EHPlabs' governed data platform on Google Cloud. The platform takes trusted data from NetSuite, Shopify and our marketing platforms, lands it in BigQuery, and serves it to internal applications, reporting and AI tools. It is live in pilot and about to scale across the business.

This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, access governance and IT operations. You will engineer the data, including pipelines, transformations, quality and the datasets the business runs on. You will also administer access, meaning who and what can reach our systems and data, across every region we operate in.

Trusted data is the product. Controlled access is the guardrail.

Success in this role means reliable pipelines, clean and validated datasets, and a business that can move fast on data without compromising security.

Responsibilities:
Data platform engineering

Operate and monitor data ingestion into BigQuery from NetSuite, Shopify and marketing platforms — managed connectors and scheduled jobs — including freshness, failures, schema changes and deletions.

Build and maintain the SQL transformation layer that turns raw source data into clean, business-ready datasets, following the platform’s modelling and naming conventions.

Support the consumers of the platform — internal applications, dashboards and AI tooling — by preparing datasets, answering data questions and validating outputs against source systems.

Track and report data quality against agreed measures, and work with business data owners to investigate and resolve discrepancies.

Document pipelines, datasets, decisions and runbooks so the platform stays maintainable and is never dependent on one person.

Contribute to evaluating and onboarding new data domains and tools as the platform expands.

Access and identity

Administer access to the data estate: dataset and view level permissions by application, team and region, on a least-privilege basis.

Administer user identity and accounts across Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 — creating, changing and removing accounts and group memberships as part of joiner, mover and leaver processes, working with People & Culture.

Uphold the platform’s governance standards in everything you build: no credentials in code, environment separation, sandbox before production, and data residency requirements.

Support periodic access reviews across systems and data.

IT operations

While the technology team is small, this role also covers a defined set of day-to-day IT operations tasks:

Device provisioning and lifecycle — setting up Mac and Windows laptops, enrolling them in mobile device management, applying standard configuration, and handling return and wipe on exit.

Day-to-day administration of our endpoint management and endpoint security tooling.

First-line support for staff device and access issues, escalating to our managed service partner where needed.

About you:

Demonstrated SQL and data modelling capability — whether through one to three years of commercial experience, a data-focused degree or bootcamp, or work you can walk us through. Experience level is negotiable; SQL fluency and sound data judgement are not.

Strong, hand‑written SQL — joins, window functions, CTEs, data type handling, and the judgement to know when a query is wrong even though it runs, without relying on a drag‑and‑drop tool.

Experience building and maintaining SQL views and data models over a relational database or warehouse. The specific platform matters far less than the modelling discipline.

You have worked with data extracted from a source system you did not control, and have had to check — and defend — that your output matched the source.

Working knowledge of a scripting language, ideally Python, for automation and data checks.

Comfort with Git and a basic deployment workflow.

Practical care for governance — access control, handling of personal data, and keeping environments separate.

Comfortable setting up laptops and administering user accounts, or clearly willing and able to learn it quickly.

Clear written communication — you document what you build and explain data issues plainly to non‑technical colleagues.

A genuinely hands‑on approach. In a small team, the person who builds the pipeline is often the person who sets up the laptop, and both matter.

Full working rights in Australia.

Hands‑on experience with a cloud data warehouse — BigQuery preferred; Snowflake, Redshift or Synapse also relevant.

dbt or a similar SQL transformation framework.

Exposure to ERP or e-commerce data — NetSuite, Shopify, or marketing and advertising platforms.

Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 administration, and mobile device management tooling.

Interest in applied AI over business data — connecting language models to governed datasets.
