Job summary

Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager / Chapter Lead for Data Engineering in Melbourne. You will lead a data platforms crew, balancing hands-on engineering with people leadership to deliver trusted data products and analytics across Economic Crime.

You will guide architecture, platform uplift, and data governance while promoting modern cloud data engineering, data quality and security best practices. Strong collaboration with risk, technology and enterprise teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading data engineering teams.
• Strong background in solution design, architecture and platform uplift.
• Experience with AWS data services and cloud data engineering practices.
• Experience designing large-scale data lakes, data warehouses, data pipelines or analytics platforms.
• Deep understanding of data quality, lineage, control frameworks and auditability.
• Experience in complex financial services, risk, compliance or regulated environments.
• Knowledge of DevSecOps, observability and platform health.

Responsibilities

• Solution design, architecture, coding and platform uplift, troubleshooting.
• Lead, coach and develop data engineers across multiple squads.
• Guide design, delivery, testing and maintenance of data products and dashboards.
• Drive full-stack data engineering, reduce handoffs and improve collaboration across teams.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to align delivery with strategic priorities and OKRs.
• Strengthen data quality, lineage, monitoring and reporting controls.
• Support modernisation of data technology toward AWS, Snowflake and AI-enabled practices.
• Champion secure, scalable engineering and DevSecOps practices.
• Lead the team transition from legacy big data towards cloud-based data services.
