Job summary

Westpac Bank is seeking an Engineer - Data Modernisation based in Sydney or Melbourne to modernise reusable platforms, frameworks, and automation for enterprise data products and pipelines.

You will actively build secure, production‑grade capabilities across data and software stacks, modernising existing solutions rather than re-hosting legacy complexity, and collaborating with multiple teams to raise engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Advanced SQL and Python programming capabilities.
• Experience delivering batch or streaming pipelines and system integrations.
• Cloud engineering experience including CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Strong understanding of data modelling, orchestration, metadata, lineage, and data‑quality controls.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy and support data pipelines, APIs, services, integrations, and platform utilities.
• Build and extend reusable frameworks and developer tooling, including ADAPT and Unified Framework (UFW).
• Modernise Teradata, enterprise batch, integration and other legacy workloads through safe, incremental migration and robust reconciliation.
• Automate build, testing, deployment, migration, observability and operational support through CI/CD and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Diagnose complex cross‑stack issues spanning code, data, infrastructure, orchestration, security, and runtime operations.
• Use AMP, GitHub Copilot, and approved AI tooling responsibly to accelerate coding, testing, documentation, migration, and operational diagnosis.
• Own components through production support and convert successful delivery into documented, tested, and reusable engineering patterns.
• Partner across engineering, architecture, platform, and delivery teams, while coaching others and raising engineering standards.
