Job summary

Arkeus in Melbourne seeks a Data Engineer to own pipelines that convert raw imagery and video from optical sensing platforms into clean, structured data for the ML team. You will build and maintain ETL pipelines for large volumes of image/video data, perform exploratory analysis, and ensure data is trustworthy and ready to train.

The role focuses on pipelines, data quality, and rapid prototyping, with strong SQL and Python skills to enable scalable data workflows and collaboration with ML

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in CS, engineering, data science or related discipline.
• 3+ years experience in data engineering, data analysis or related field with imagery/video data.
• Proven experience building ETL pipelines for image/video data.
• Strong SQL skills with large datasets.
• Prototyping in Python for exploratory analysis and visualization.
• Experience with unstructured/semistructured data (images, video, sensor data).
• Understanding of ML-ready data concepts (labeling, balance, quality checks).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines for large volumes of imagery and video data.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to understand dataset quality, coverage, and gaps.
• Clean, structure, and organise datasets for ML team use.
• Build fast prototype visualisations to surface data issues and communicate findings.
• Write and optimise SQL to query, transform, and manage data at scale.
• Collaborate with ML engineers to define training-ready data needs.
• Maintain documentation of datasets, pipelines, and data quality processes.
