Job summary

Talent Mode is partnering with a Defence consultancy client to recruit an experienced Data Centre Lead to oversee a secure ICT environment supporting Defence capability and systems integration.

The role requires NV1 minimum clearance, and offers a contract engagement up to 1,200–1,250 AUD per day ex GST. Start date anticipated January 2027, based in Canberra, Australia.

Qualifications

• NV1 clearance minimum.
• 10+ years' experience across infrastructure, systems administration or enterprise ICT.
• Experience leading data centre or infrastructure teams in Defence/government ICT environments.
• Certifications across VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, Cisco, Security or Storage technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team responsible for operation and sustainment of critical data centre infrastructure.
• Drive capacity planning, patch management, security uplift and technology roadmap activities.
• Provide technical leadership across compute, storage, virtualization and networking environments.
• Support design, integration and sustainment of complex ICT solutions within secure environments.
• Review technical designs, architecture documentation and infrastructure plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team responsible for the operation and sustainment of critical data centre infrastructure.
• Drive capacity planning, patch management, security uplift and technology roadmap activities.
• Provide technical leadership across enterprise compute, storage, virtualisation and networking environments.
• Support the design, integration and sustainment of complex ICT solutions within secure environments.
• Review technical designs, architecture documentation and infrastructure plans.
• Manage work priorities, resource allocation and technical delivery outcomes.
• Develop and maintain system documentation, SOPs, configuration records and technical standards.
• Provide Level 2/3 technical support and guidance for complex infrastructure issues.
• Engage with Defence stakeholders, project teams and senior leadership to deliver capability outcomes.
• Leadership experience managing enterprise data centre or infrastructure teams.
• Strong Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration skills.
• Enterprise virtualisation experience, including VMware vSphere or similar platforms.
• Knowledge of security controls, Essential Eight and the Information Security Manual (ISM).
• Defence or government ICT environments.
• 10+ years' experience across infrastructure, systems administration or enterprise ICT.
• Relevant certifications across VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, Cisco, Security or Storage technologies.
