Job summary

BLACKROC Recruitment is seeking an experienced Data Architect for a 12-month contract with extensions, Hybrid work, and Australian Citizenship essential. The role focuses on Data Architecture, Modelling, Integration and Delivery across a large-scale federal data environment.

You will lead design reviews, define data standards, mentor teams and drive delivery improvements with a strong emphasis on knowledge transfer and documentation. Experience in Agile settings is valued.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, workshops and guidance on implementation best practice.
• Review and refine data delivery frameworks, integrating new data sources and improving performance.
• Define peer review, data modelling and release standards.
• Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring across data modelling, development and release processes.
• Lead the technical implementation of new data from analysis through to delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement across delivery principles, coding standards and documentation.
• Prioritise work items and support delivery planning.
• Analyse and size user requirements.
• Provide guidance on conceptual, logical and physical data models.
• Review data models and designs and provide technical guidance to engineers and modellers.
• Maintain technical and system documentation.
• Work closely with data consumers, database developers, testers and IT support teams.
• Support development of consumable reporting and analytics to address business risks and trends.

12-month contract + extensions | Hybrid | Australian Citizenship essential

We’re looking for an experienced Data Architect to provide technical leadership across a large-scale federal government data environment.

This is a senior role focused on Data Architecture, Data Modelling, Data Integration and Data Delivery, working closely with development teams, data consumers and other technical stakeholders to design and govern effective data solutions.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Providing technical leadership through design reviews, technical workshops and guidance on implementation best practice
• Reviewing and refining data delivery frameworks, including integration of new data sources and performance improvements
• Defining peer review, data modelling and release standards
• Providing knowledge transfer and mentoring across data modelling, development and release processes
• Leading the technical implementation of new data from analysis through to delivery
• Driving continuous improvement across delivery principles, coding standards and documentation
• Prioritising work items and supporting delivery planning
• Analysing and sizing user requirements
• Providing guidance on Conceptual, Logical and Physical data models
• Reviewing data models and designs and providing technical guidance to engineers and modellers
• Maintaining technical and system documentation
• Working closely with data consumers, database developers, testers and IT support teams
• Supporting the development of consumable reporting and analytics to address business risks and emerging trends

You’ll need strong experience across enterprise data environments, with demonstrated capability in:

• Data Architecture, including enterprise-scale conformed data models and analytical data design
• AWS cloud data environments, including S3 and contemporary cloud data warehouse technologies
• Technical leadership across Cloud Data Lake and Data Warehouse platforms
• ETL and data governance design and implementation
• Data modelling, including peer review and providing guidance to technical teams
• DevOps processes
• Version control and appropriate branching/release practices
• Data modelling tools such as Erwin
• Strong SQL skills, with experience in contemporary analytics languages such as Python or R highly regarded
• Reverse engineering end-user SQL and interpreting existing data models and specifications
• Metadata or model-driven frameworks

Experience working in an Agile environment is also highly regarded.
