The Essential Services Commission Victoria is seeking a data analytics professional to provide robust analytical insights to support the energy division’s operations, with responsibilities spanning analytics enhancement and delivering business intelligence reports.

You will produce insightful reports using advanced data analysis, uplift the division’s data analytics platform and tools, and respond to internal and external client requests, with Azure data management components.

The Essential Services Commission is Victoria’s independent economic regulator of essential services supplied by a range of industries. The commission’s functions include:

  • making regulatory decisions with respect to prescribed industries (including price determinations, licensing, customerprotectionand access disputes).
  • undertaking reviews and providing advice to Ministers on a range of economic and regulatory matters.
  • administering the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
About the role

The focus of the role is toproviderobust analytical insightsto support all aspects of the energy division’soperation.

The role is split across two core functions:

  • support enhancements of the analyticalproficiencyof the energy division through producing innovative insightful analytical products, providing recommendations on how to uplift analytical systems and tools, and managing improvement projects under limited supervision
  • deliver on operational requirements including responding to internal and external clients’ requests, undertaking data management activities, and delivering a broad range of analytical and business intelligence reports.
In this role youwill:
  • Produceinsightfulanalytical reports (regular and ad hoc) toa broadrange of stakeholderusing advanced data analysis.
  • Supportthe uplifting ofthe existing Energy Division’s data analytics platformand tools.
  • Support the uplifting ofthe existing Energy Division’s advanced data analytics capability.

This is anongoing position. The work location for this position is 570 Bourke Street, Melbourne withhybrid work arrangements available.

Key accountabilities
  • Perform data analysis on complex datasets,including market, industry,complaintsand demographic datausingscripting languages (R, Python).
  • Utilise advancedanalytical techniques toidentifypatterns and trends to inform compliance strategies, target compliance and enforcement actions, andpolicy reforms.
  • Undertake data management activities, including automation of data pipelines in Azure.
  • Communicateinsights toa variety of audiences, from technical specialists to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement to existing analytical practice.
