Job summary

The Australian National University is seeking a Cyber Security Officer to join the Cyber Integration Centre in Canberra. You will protect information assets, monitor security events, and support investigations across university systems, under guidance from senior security specialists.

You'll contribute to threat analysis, incident response, and security improvements while developing skills in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in cyber security, IT, CS, networking, or related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with curiosity for security.
• Understanding of networking concepts: TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, firewalls.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to learn and contribute in a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of information security principles, risk management and controls.
• Proactive mindset to improve cyber resilience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze cyber security events, alerts and incidents to identify threats.
• Assist with security investigations and remediation activities.
• Support operation and improvement of security monitoring and detection capabilities.
• Research emerging threats and technologies to improve security posture.
• Provide advice and communications to stakeholders following policies and procedures.
• Prepare reports and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with technical teams, business units and external partners on security initiatives.
