ANU College of Asia & the Pacific in Canberra seeks a Cyber Security Officer to protect and manage information and communication technology across digital and non-digital environments. You will join the Cyber Integration Centre (CIC) to contribute to monitoring, investigations, incident response and threat analysis.

Under guidance from senior security specialists, you will help improve security posture, analyze events, and communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• Qualifications or experience in cyber security, information technology, computer science, networking, system administration, or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a genuine interest and passion for cyber security, emerging technologies, threat landscapes and continuous learning.
• Demonstrated understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, firewalls and network security principles, or a strong willingness to further develop these skills.
• Experience with Python, JavaScript or other scripting languages is highly desirable, particularly for automation and security-related use cases.

Join the Australian National University as Cyber Security Officer, where you will be instrumental in protecting and managing information and communication technology systems across both digital and non-digital environments.

About the Role

As Cyber Security Officer, you will work within the Cyber Integration Centre (CIC) to help protect information assets, technology platforms and research environment. Working under the guidance of senior security specialists, you will contribute to cyber security monitoring, investigations, incident response, threat analysis and security improvement activities across the University. The role is suited to individuals looking to further develop their cyber security skills within a multidisciplinary operational environment.

Key Duties

• Conduct analysis of cyber security events, alerts and incidents to identify threats and security risks.
• Assist with security investigations, assessments and remediation activities across the University systems.
• Support the operation and continuous improvement of security monitoring and detection capabilities.

About You

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Qualifications or experience in cyber security, information technology, computer science, networking, system administration, or a related discipline.

• Demonstrated understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, firewalls and network security principles, or a strong willingness to further develop these skills.
• Network packet analysis and an understanding of networking concepts and protocols are highly desirable.
• Experience with Python, JavaScript or other scripting languages is highly desirable, particularly for automation and security-related use cases.
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A willingness to learn, develop professionally and contribute within a collaborative and multidisciplinary team environment.
• An understanding of information security principles, risk management, security controls and cyber security best practices.
• The ability to investigate issues, think critically and apply sound judgement when assessing security risks and operational impacts.
• A proactive mindset with a desire to contribute to improving cyber resilience and security posture.
