Job summary

Leidos Australia is seeking a Security Lead for Projects & Systems Delivery to drive cyber security across a major Defence program. You will lead security obligations, guide engineering and delivery teams, and ensure security is embedded from design through delivery.

The role requires extensive cyber security experience in a Defence context, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and balance risk with delivery outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Risk Management or a related field.
• 8+ years in cyber security, including experience supporting security across project delivery, system design or development environments.
• Knowledge of cyber security standards, risk frameworks and regulatory requirements.
• Experience in a Defence environment, including the Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation Framework.
• Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to balance security requirements with delivery outcomes.
• Military background and knowledge of ICT, EW or networks.

Do Work That Matters

Join Leidos Australia in a key cyber leadership role supporting a major Defence program. You’ll lead cyber security obligations across the program, working closely with project, engineering and customer stakeholders to ensure security is considered early and built into system design and development from the outset.

This role is ideal for a senior cyber professional who understands how to support security across the full project management lifecycle, particularly within system design, development and delivery environments. You’ll know how to engage with engineers, developers and project teams to ensure cyber requirements are practical, achievable and embedded throughout delivery - not treated as an afterthought.

We’re looking for someone with srong project security experience, rather than a purely corporate security or governance background. You’ll combine cyber risk and compliance expertise with practical delivery experience, stakeholder influence and the ability to guide teams through secure project outcomes.

Your New Role and Responsibilities

What You’ll Bring to Make an Impact

Degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Risk Management or a related field, or equivalent experience.

8+ years in cyber security, including experience supporting security across project delivery, system design or development environments.

Knowledge of cyber security standards, risk frameworks and regulatory requirements.

Experience in a Defence environment, including the Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation Framework.

Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to balance security requirements with delivery outcomes.

The Essentials We’re Looking For

Military background, ideally focused across the communications spectrum of ICT, EW or networks.

Strong understanding of operational requirements, with the ability to implement security controls that minimise risk while supporting operational priorities.

Experience in security-focused project delivery roles, from concept through to delivery.

Solid software or application-centric security experience.

Demonstrated understanding of Security by Design principles.

Education or certifications across security, engineering or ICT, supported by lived experience in at least one of these fields.

Proven ability to communicate with and manage engagements across senior leadership, technical teams and key stakeholders.

Occasional travel within Australia possible.

Must be able to start with an AU-Baseline clearance and obtain and maintain AU-NV-2.
