Your New Role And Responsibilities

The Security Engineer is accountable for the implementation and operation of Leidos managed capabilities across a Federal Government Department that spans both on-prem and cloud environments. They will ensure that systems and platforms are protected in line with organisational and regulatory requirements.

The Security Engineering Team reports to the Leidos Security Lead and will collaborate with Department stakeholders to deploy and manage these capabilities. The Security Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the deployed platforms are integrated with enterprise services and provide effective protections to the Department.

The Security Engineer will drive system hardening, continuous monitoring efforts and perform Incident Response (IR) activities. This involves analysis of security events, working with other teams to investigate alerts, identify root causes, tune protection capabilities and implement remediation actions. They will implement and operates vulnerability management capabilities across the environment, ensuring that systems and applications are assessed, monitored and protected against threats.

The role contributes to system assurance activities by maintaining vulnerability records, gathering technical artefacts, and reporting on risk posture in alignment with the ISM and PSPF.

This role requires strong experience in enterprise security operations and Federal Government environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Configuring Microsoft Windows systems, Linux systems and any Public Cloud tenancies.
  • Deploying and maintaining security capabilities within an Australian Government environment.
  • Vulnerability Management.
  • Investigating security alerts and supporting IR activities.
  • Change Management processes.
  • Strong understanding of system hardening and secure configuration standards (e.g. ISM and Essential Eight).
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Government security frameworks and regulatory controls (e.g. PSPF).
  • Ability to support compliance activities (e.g. gather artefacts from systems and perform regular reporting practices).
About You And What You'll Bring - Desirable
  • Proven experience in Identity and Access Management (IdAM).
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Security Architecture (ESA).
  • Elasticsearch as an observability platform.
  • Experience with automation and orchestration tooling (e.g. Ansible or equivalent).
  • Experience with IT service management platforms and governance workflows (e.g. ServiceNow).

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and holds a current NV-1 level security clearance.
