Job summary

Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT – Newcastle, NSW is seeking a dedicated social worker to join the Care & Protection/Family Law Practice. You will deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, conduct assessments and case management, and advocate through court proceedings.

You will coordinate holistic services with health, housing and community partners, and prepare reports while upholding ethical and cultural standards.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated trauma-informed, culturally safe social work practice.
• Strong communication, advocacy and relationship-building skills.
• Experience in case management, psychosocial assessment and safety planning.

Responsibilities

• Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed social work to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members.
• Conduct psychosocial assessments, case management, risk assessments and safety planning.
• Advocate for clients and support Care & Protection, Family Law and court proceedings.
• Coordinate wraparound services with health, housing and community partners.
• Prepare professional reports and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Travel as required to support community-based service delivery.
