Job summary

Mater Central Queensland - Rockhampton is seeking an experienced CSSD Technician for a casual/temporary and permanent part‑time position. The role covers 6:30am–8:30pm shifts Monday to Friday with some weekend work, providing sterilisation services and supporting perioperative care under supervision.

The department handles over 4,400 procedures annually across several specialties. Salary ranges from $35.05 to $39.04 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging.

Qualifications

• To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills.
• Exposure to Sterilisation Services in a healthcare environment.
• Certificate III in Sterilisation Services or working towards within six months.
• Previous CSSD experience with autonomy and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Apply cleaning methods and disinfecting agents on surgical instrumentation.
• Process equipment for transfer to external sterilising units when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of surgical instruments and packaging techniques.
• Conduct all sterilisation procedures following accepted methods and principles.
• Process endoscopic equipment for multi-use purposes.
• Store sterilised items to maximise sterility and access.
• Perform functions within clinical standards and regulations.

About the role

Mater Private Hospital Bundaberg is seeking an experienced CSSD Technician to join our team. We have both a Casual and a permanent part‑time position, contracted to 16 hours per week. Our CSSD department operates Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend shifts available. Operating hours range from 6:30am to 8:30pm. In this role you will provide an efficient and effective preparation and sterilisation service by utilising a high standard of skills and procedures by industry and hospital guidelines. You also will assist the perioperative clinical team in delivering clinical care under the direction and supervision of the Registered and Enrolled Nurses when necessary.

Our Perioperative Department features three operating theatres and one procedure room, where we perform over 4,400 procedures annually. We specialise in a wide range of surgical services including gynaecology, general surgery, orthopaedics, reconstructive plastics, urology, ophthalmology, respiratory procedures, and more. What you’ll be doing

About you

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following criteria:

• A demonstrated understanding of infection control principles.
• Basic computer skills
• A background working in a clinical / health care background
• Practical interpersonal and communication skills
• Exposure to Sterilisation Services in a healthcare environment
• Certificate III in Sterilisation Services, or the ability to provide evidence of working towards attainment within the first six months.
• Previous experience in a CSSD role with the ability to work in all areas with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
