Job summary

Service Stream is seeking an experienced Crew Member to join our Energy-Gas team in Clayton, VIC. You will perform field construction and maintenance on gas mains and services, reporting to the Operations & Maintenance manager and supporting a broad utilities unit.

Role involves excavation, pipe laying, live connections, pressure testing, site reinstatement, and safety-first work practices. A Mains & Services Certificate 3 (or equivalent) is preferred; after-hours duties may apply.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating mechanical equipment in gas industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Completion of a Mains and Services Certificate 3 or equivalent (desirable).
  • Strong liaison and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and organize work to meet standards.
  • Willingness to participate in after-hours duty rosters and emergency call-outs.

Responsibilities

  • Excavation and trenching using hand tools or machinery.
  • Pipe laying, jointing, wrapping, and installation of valves and fittings.
  • Assisting with under-pressure drilling, tapping, and live gas connections.
  • Backfilling, compaction, and site reinstatement.
  • Operating and maintaining tools, plant, and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Following all safety procedures and use correct PPE at all times.
  • Carrying out work under direction according to plans, drawings, and job instructions.
  • Assisting with pressure testing and purging of mains and services.
  • Supporting site clean-up and restoration, including lawns, footpaths, and roadways.
  • Completing documentation such as time sheets, job reports, and basic field notes.
  • Supporting gas meter refits and relight customer appliances as required.
  • Participating in toolbox talks, site inductions, and team briefings.
  • Responding to after-hours callouts and participate in on-call rosters if required.
  • Maintaining a professional attitude and support positive relationships with customers, contractors & the public.
  • Ensuring proper care, use and security of company tools, equipment and vehicles.
