Job description

About the team:
At its core, credit is trust extended over time. Every credit decision shapes customer outcomes, portfolio performance, and the long-term resilience of the bank. To support the modernisation of our function we are building a more integrated, insight-led practitioner model that goes beyond reporting by playing an active role in shaping outcomes.

About the role
This is a great opportunity for a data-minded risk professional who enjoys solving real business problems.

As a Credit Risk Practitioner, you will use data, analytics, business judgement, governance principles and collaboration to improve credit strategy across the full lifecycle, including originations, portfolio management, and collections. You will work closely with teams across Product, Pricing, Technology, Operations, Distribution, Operations, Collections and L1 and L2 Risk teams to design and deliver practical credit improvements to strengthen portfolio performance.

You will take end-to-end ownership of credit challenges in your area, from diagnosis to delivery:

  • Define and size the problem
  • Analyse portfolio and process performance
  • Recommend credit strategy or rule changes
  • Support implementation and control testing
  • Monitor results and optimise over time

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, connecting insights to decisions, and translating strategy into operational outcomes across the credit lifecycle.

What you’ll do

  • Credit strategy design and optimisation
Develop and improve strategies across originations, account management, and collections using segmentation, decision logic, and performance analysis.
  • Portfolio insight and performance monitoring
Identify key trends, drivers, emerging risks, and opportunities. Translate analysis into practical recommendations that improve portfolio outcomes.
  • Governance and controlled change delivery
Support high-quality implementation through testing, validation, documentation, and traceability aligned to policy and regulatory expectations.
  • Analytics and continuous improvement
Use data, analytical tools, and modern platforms to strengthen decisioning, improve operational effectiveness, and enhance customer outcomes.
  • Cross-functional collaboration and execution
Partner with business, technology, operations, finance, compliance, and risk teams to ensure strategies are practical, implemented correctly, and performing as intended in production.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in credit risk, preferably in retail lending
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify meaningful patterns, and derive insights that inform action
  • Strong skills in SQL, Python, SAS, Excel, Tableau, or similar tools used for analysis and performance monitoring
  • Experience working with modern data platforms (for example BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar cloud-based environments)
  • Ability to translate analysis into clear, practical recommendations that balance customer outcomes, risk appetite, and business performance
  • Sound understanding of Australian retail credit portfolios, including key segments, performance drivers, and the broader risk landscape
  • Understanding of core portfolio metrics such as losses, recoveries, provisions, and return outcomes
  • Strong problem-solving, structured thinking, and collaboration skills, with confidence working across business and risk stakeholders
  • A curious mindset, strong sense of ownership, and willingness to keep learning and improving
  • A tertiary qualification in a quantitative, analytical, commercial, legal, technology, or related discipline is valued, or equivalent practical experience.

We recognise that great candidates may not meet every role requirement listed above. If your experience aligns strongly with many of the areas outlined and you are excited by the opportunity to grow further as a Credit Risk practitioner, we encourage you to apply.

This role reflects a broader shift in how Credit Riskoperates, toward a more connected, insight-drivenand outcomes-focused practitioner model.

You will have the opportunity to influence portfolio outcomes by helping shape credit decisions, improving governance and controls, strengthening decisionqualityand contributing to the evolution of modern credit practices.
