What You Will Be Doing:

Reporting to the Accounts Director, you'll lead credit control and debtor management across the firm, working alongside a Management Accountant and Accounts Officer.

This is a hands‑on, client‑facing role where you'll spend a significant part of your day communicating with clients, following up on outstanding payments and driving positive financial outcomes.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Take responsibility for the firm's credit control activities, including outstanding accounts, debtor management and payment follow-ups.

  • Proactively contact clients by phone and email to resolve overdue accounts and secure timely payments.

  • Negotiate payment arrangements and manage follow-ups to support successful collection outcomes.

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve credit control processes, systems and reporting.

  • Monitor debtor ageing, identify outstanding balances and prioritise recovery activities.

  • Maintain accurate debtor records, payment arrangements and collection activity.

  • Work collaboratively with the finance and legal teams to resolve billing queries and escalat complex matters where appropriate.

  • Support the management of overdue accounts requiring further debt recovery action, including coordination with legal practitioners.

This is a genuine opportunity to make your mark, build a function your way and see the direct impact of your work across the business!

What You Will Need:

We're looking for an established credit control professional who can hit the ground running, confidently manage challenging payment conversations and independently lead the firm's credit control activities.

Essential requirements:
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in credit control or debtor management, with demonstrated responsibility for independently managing collections, negotiating payment arrangements and driving recovery outcomes.

  • Experience working in a professional services environment, with an understanding of time‑based billing and client invoicing.

  • Strong telephone communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to navigate sensitive or challenging payment conversations.

  • Experience using financial systems, maintaining accurate debtor records and monitoring outstanding accounts.

Highly regarded, but not essential:
  • Previous credit control or finance experience within a law firm.

  • Experience establishing or improving credit control processes and procedures.

  • Experience managing escalated debt recovery matters.

  • Legal qualifications and practical litigation experience in debt recovery or related proceedings, particularly for qualified lawyers interested in transitioning into a finance‑focused role.
