Job summary

Meridian Lawyers is seeking a Finance Specialist to join the Finance team in our Sydney office on a maximum-term basis to cover parental leave. You will handle day-to-day finance operations, accounting processes and ad hoc projects, balancing a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment.

You will monitor tickets, assist with billing, credit card reconciliation, and support Accounts Payable, Trust, reconciliations and reporting, while maintaining compliance and exploring process improvements.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' experience in an all-round Finance Officer role.
• Intermediate Excel skills.
• Experience in a legal or professional services environment.
• Collaborative approach to supporting Finance team and broader business.
• Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, review and action finance-related tickets and requests.
• Assist with billing queries, rates management, prebill generation, and multi-payor billing.
• Assist with company credit card reconciliation and documentation matching.
• Provide support across Finance functions including Accounts Payable, Trust, reconciliations, and receipting.
• Create, maintain and amend client and matter rates; establish new rate sets.
• Support with financial reporting and access to information within systems.
• Ensure adherence to policies, standards and regulatory requirements.
• Identify process improvements and best practices to improve efficiency.
• Respond to ad hoc stakeholder requests and assist with Finance projects.

About the Role and Team

We are seeking a motivated Finance Specialist to join our Finance team based in our Sydney office on a maximum-term basis to provide parental leave cover.

This role is responsible for providing general finance support across day-to-day finance operations, accounting processes, and ad hoc projects. As a key member of the Finance team, you will play a pivotal support role, managing a diverse workload, balancing competing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Monitor, review and action finance-related tickets and requests to support the business.
• Assist Legal Admins with billing queries, including rates management, locked bills, prebill generation, and billing multiple payors under a single client matter.
• Assist with company credit card reconciliation – obtain the latest credit card statements, allocate receipts/invoices or documentation that correspond to the credit card transactions, ensure transactions match the receipts and process them into the system, follow up discrepancies and missing receipts.
• Provide support across broader finance functions, including Accounts Payable, Trust, reconciliations, receipting, and other workflows as business needs arise.
• Create, maintain, and amend client and matter rates, including establishing new rate sets as required.
• Support Legal Admins with financial reporting requirements and access to financial information within the system.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Respond to ad hoc requests from stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist with finance-related projects and other duties as required.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate a proactive, can-do attitude, strong attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to supporting both the Finance team and the broader business.

To be successful in the role, you will bring:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in an all-round Finance Officer role.
• Sound working knowledge of accounting functions and services, with intermediate Excel skills.
• Previous experience within a legal or professional services environment.
• A collaborative approach, with a genuine willingness to support colleagues and contribute positively to the team.
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and confidently handle a diverse range of responsibilities.
• Experience with Aderant or a similar accounting system is preferred.
