Job summary

TAL Australia is seeking a Corporate Counsel to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across regulatory, product and commercial matters. You will work with stakeholders across the business to shape decisions and navigate regulatory change affecting TAL's customers and priorities.

The role covers commercial, regulatory and product matters, partnering closely with the business on life insurance products and related agreements.

Qualifications

• Australian practising qualification and 3–5 years' PQE providing legal advice in regulated environments.
• Exposure to life insurance regulation and consumer protection frameworks is highly regarded.
• Strong contracting, negotiation and drafting capability.
• Sound commercial judgement balancing legal risk with business outcomes.
• Confidence partnering with stakeholders and translating complex issues into practical advice.
• Curiosity about regulatory and industry developments.

Responsibilities

As a Corporate Counsel at TAL, you\'ll provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across a broad mix of regulatory, product and commercial matters. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you\'ll help shape confident decisions, navigate regulatory change and support initiatives that impact millions of Australians. This is a broad inhouse legal opportunity where you\'ll work across commercial, regulatory and product matters, partnering closely with the business on issues that directly influence TAL\'s customers and strategic priorities.

In this role you will:

• Provide practical legal advice across commercial, regulatory and product matters
• Partner with stakeholders on the development and distribution of life insurance products
• Draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements
• Advise on regulatory change, customer communications, marketing and consumer protection matters
• Support corporate legal matters including contracts and intellectual property
• Help the business understand emerging legal and regulatory risks
• Contribute to broader industry reform and advocacy across life insurance and superannuation

Qualifications

• An Australian practising qualification and at least 3 to 5 years\' PQE providing legal advice within financial services, insurance, superannuation, wealth or another highly regulated environment
• Exposure to life insurance regulation and consumer protection frameworks is highly regarded, but not essential
• Strong commercial contracting, negotiation and drafting capability
• Sound commercial judgement and the ability to balance legal risk with practical business outcomes
• Confidence partnering with stakeholders and translating complex legal issues into clear, practical advice
• Curiosity and a genuine interest in emerging regulatory and industry developments
