Job summary

HOTA, Home of the Arts on the Gold Coast is seeking a Part Time Corporate AV Technician to support day-to-day operation and delivery of audiovisual services across HOTA venues. You will ensure high-quality AV experiences for corporate events, conferences, and presentations while maintaining safety and professional standards.

You will work with the Head of Audio and the Technical team to set up, operate, and troubleshoot AV systems, with a strong focus on client-facing service and event

Qualifications

• Qualification in Audio Visual, Live Production, Entertainment Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in AV, corporate events, live events, venue, theatre, or entertainment environment.
• Experience troubleshooting basic technical and AV issues during live events.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; client-facing focus.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Blue Card if required by duties.

Responsibilities

This role will be based at HOTA, Home of the Arts. HOTA is an iconic Gold Coast destination where art, entertainment, culture and lifestyle meet. A place that locals love and visitors must-see. HOTA offers a diverse suite of venues and facilities, including a gallery, outdoor stage, indoor theatres and cinemas, function and events rooms, as well as a range of food and beverage venues including the HOTA Café, the rooftop Exhibitionist Bar and three hat Palette Restaurant.

At the heart of HOTA’s identity is a rich and diverse program: live music, theatre, dance, comedy, film, visual art exhibitions, children’s shows, community workshops, and festivals - all taking place across the array of venues.

About the Role

The Part Time Corporate AV Technician role is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation, delivery, and presentation of audiovisual services across HOTA’s venues and facilities.

Reporting to the Head of Audio and working with the wider Technical and corporate teams, the role contributes to the successful delivery of corporate events, conferences, presentations, functions, and other venue activities through the operation of audiovisual systems and provision of professional technical support.

The position plays a key role in delivering high-quality AV experiences for clients, presenters, event organisers, and internal stakeholders. This includes supporting presentation systems, video and display systems, audio, conferencing technology, event setups and pack downs, and general AV requirements across the HOTA precinct.

As a member of the technical department, the role is expected to combine strong technical capability with excellent communication, presentation, and customer service skills. While experience in live performance and entertainment environments is valuable, the position is particularly suited to technicians with experience in corporate audiovisual delivery and a strong client-facing focus, while maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, technical excellence, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Department Maintenance & Upkeep:

• Maintain audio visual equipment, infrastructure, and systems in a safe and operational condition.
• Undertake routine inspections, preventative maintenance, cleaning, testing, and fault reporting of audio visual and any other relevant equipment.
• Assist with test and tag activities and ensure equipment remains compliant and fit for use.
• Support the upkeep and presentation of audio visual control rooms, workshops, storage areas, and technical spaces.
• Assist with equipment repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting as directed by the Head of Audio, supervisor or relevant Technical Operations Manager.
• Identify damaged, faulty, or ageing equipment and report issues promptly.
• Maintain organised equipment storage and workshop areas.
• Prepare, test, clean, and return equipment following productions, events, conferences, and functions.
• Ensure equipment is correctly labelled, stored, maintained, and operated in accordance with departmental procedures.

Venue & System Standards:

• Assist in maintaining venue audio visual systems and infrastructure to departmental standards.
• Support routine checks and testing of installed audio, video, presentation, conferencing, and other venue technical systems.
• Assist with venue upgrades, equipment installations, system configuration, and improvement projects.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout all technical work areas.

Event & Corporate AV Support:

• Assist with the preparation, installation, operation, and removal of audio-visual equipment for events, productions, exhibitions, conferences, presentations, functions, meetings, and venue activities.
• Support venue changeovers, bump-ins, bump-outs, rehearsals, performances, conferences, and event delivery activities.
• Operate audio visual, presentation, video, display, and conferencing systems during events and functions as required.
• Provide professional technical support to clients, presenters, event organisers, internal business units, and other stakeholders.
• Assist with the setup and operation of corporate AV systems, including presentation systems, projectors, displays, microphones, audio systems, video conferencing, playback systems, and associated equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve basic audio visual and technical issues during events, presentations, meetings, and functions, escalating complex issues as required.
• Perform show crew and technical duties across HOTA venues and facilities as required.
• Provide technical support to internal business units for meetings, functions, activations, exhibitions, conferences, presentations, and special events.
• Assist with the setup, operation, and pack down of technical equipment across audio, video, staging, and venue operations where required.
• Support the delivery of departmental projects, venue improvements, system upgrades, and operational initiatives.
• Contribute to maintaining venue readiness and ensuring a high standard of presentation for all events and activities.

What We're Looking For

• Relevant qualification in Audio Visual, Live Production, Entertainment Technology, Technical Production, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Demonstrated experience working in an audio visual, corporate events, live events, venue, theatre, or entertainment environment.
• Experience troubleshooting basic technical and AV issues and responding calmly and effectively in live event environments.
• Ability to support the delivery of live events, productions, exhibitions, and venue operations in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to undertake equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, presentation, and operational readiness.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely in a live event environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Blue Card (Working with Children Check) if required by the duties of the role.
• Entertainment Industry experience.
• Current EWP licence (or willingness to obtain).
• Current Working at Heights training.
• Current Open Driver's Licence.
• Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
• Electrical Test & Tag competency (desirable).
